Assoc. Pastor of Family & Youth - Job Description

Our church has a rich heritage, a dynamic present, and a vibrant future. The candidate should be motivated to embody the church vision (exalt, edify, equip, evangelize) and be inspired by the church mission as commanded by Matthew 28:18-20.

Purpose
 The Associate Pastor of Family and Youth Ministry will direct and lead programming for Family, Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School and High School age youth while seeking to foster Christian community through building relationships with families and young people that strengthen their commitment to the church and their growth in faith in Jesus Christ

Core Responsibilities
1. Provide leadership for and function as the primary staff person relating to the family and youth ministries.
2. Oversee the Early Childhood and Elementary education program.
3. Oversee the youth ministry including recruitment and training of adult volunteers to work with middle and high school age groups.
4. Plan and implement age appropriate activities for middle and high school age youth that promote community through fellowship, fun and faith development. Activities could include but not be limited to small group Bible study, local service projects, mission trips, and retreats.
5. Oversee the family ministry including home group organization and leadership.
6. Develop an annual budget for Family and Youth Ministries in conjunction with the Administration Committee.
7. Coordinate fund-raising activities that support special family and youth activities and trips.
8. Promote Christian service through age appropriate service projects.
9. Participate in weekly Sunday morning services and develop, lead, and/or coordinate Sunday morning, night, and Wednesday night youth classes.
10. Create a leadership development program to recruit, train, and certify volunteers to work with the children and youth.

General Responsibilities:
1. Become a member and active participant in the life and ministry of CFBC.
2. Attend staff meetings, quarterly business meetings, and any other meetings required by the supervising minister.
3. Meet regularly with supervising minister at a mutually agreed upon time.
4. Coordinate family and youth activities with other ministries of the congregation in cooperation with staff.
5. Collaborate with office staff and provide a timely and accurate schedule of family and youth activities.
6. Keep the congregation informed of events by coordinating the publicity for family and youth activities through the appropriate vehicles provided by the church. (e.g. monthly newsletter, special mailings, posters, bulletin announcements, web page, etc.)
7. Manage the disbursement of budgeted funds for Family and Youth Ministry within the guidelines of the approved budget and the purchasing policies of the church. Keep an organized record of all expenses and submit an expense report with applicable receipts in a timely manner.
8. Encourage families and young people to participate in all facets of the life of the community of faith, including worship, choirs, educational opportunities, youth activities, camp and service projects, etc.

9. Serve as a member of the administration team.

Working Conditions:
The position of Associate Pastor of Family and Youth Ministry requires great flexibility in hours available for work, including evenings and weekends. The position is a part-time, salaried position based upon a projected 28 hours per week. However, the actual number of hours required during any given week should be adjusted as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

It is therefore understood that the Associate Pastor of Family and Youth Ministry shall:

  • Maintain some regularly scheduled office hours to be accessible to youth, parents, staff and church leadership.
  • Keep the church office informed as to how he/she can be contacted.
  • Notify the staff prior to all unforeseen and untimely absences from regularly scheduled events; provide a suitable substitute in the case of anticipated absence (meeting excepted); and provide methods to receive and respond to messages in the case of an extended absence.
  • Be familiar with and operate within the guidelines of church policies.
  • Office, phone, computer, voice mail, email, Internet services, duplicating and secretarial support is provided by the church for work related to this position.

Qualifications:
Since the Associate Pastor of Family and Youth Ministry plays a major role in the faith development of the younger members of the church, both as a leader, and as an example, CFBC seeks a professional leader who has a solid understanding of the foundations of the Christian faith and who has a strong desire to nurture young people in the Christian faith. We seek a person with the ability to generate new ideas and programs, and a person who values a team concept of ministry. Therefore, the following qualifications are desirable.

  • Exceptional ability to work with youth and adults.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Budget management experience.

Professional Development
The Associate Pastor of Family and Youth Ministry will avail herself/himself to further educational opportunities (conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.) to update her/his experience as time allows. She/he shall share this knowledge with the Senior Minister, the administrative committee, and other staff as necessary.

1. Agreement with Church’s Statement of Faith which is consistent with the 2000 edition of the Baptist Faith and Message.

4. Collaborates and follows the directives of the Senior Minister and other applicable leaders authorized to give him/her direction.

Terms of Employment
1.Will be negotiated individually and reflected in the Contract of Employment, with a preference for a 24-month or longer commitment to the role.
2. The Associate Pastor of Family and Youth Ministry is accountable to and supervised by the Senior Minister. She/he will participate in the annual process of review (a performance evaluation) carried out by the Senior Minister. Annual recommendations will be made to the administrative committee, based upon its findings.

3. Must have a valid South Carolina driver’s license and be willing to give Cordesville Baptist Church authorization to conduct a background check.

Other Responsibilities
 Other duties may be assigned as determined by the Senior Minister.
